We will administer standardised tests in the coming weeks in both English and Mathematics. We recognise that the administration of standardised tests, in a year that simply could not be categorised as standard will be challenging. We will however be placing the appropriate weighting on the tests, which even in more conventional times provide a simple snapshot into each child’s progress and are not all-encompassing. We would ask that parents do not overstate the importance of the tests with their children and simply frame them as an opportunity to showcase their ability in a positive way. The Parent/ Teacher meetings in May will provide an opportunity for the results to be examined, contextualised and collaboratively assessed. We will ensure the tests are administered in a positive atmosphere and that the children are at their ease. A good night’s sleep on the night prior to the tests is the greatest preparation parents can facilitate for their children.
The tests will simply provide the teachers with some helpful data that will allow us to pointedly plan for each child’s academic needs.
